project day

By the way..the day of the presentation is on Oct. 5th. I forgot to post before!
Any doubts...talk to me!

Mid Project

As promissed here goes the instructions for the project:

Imagine that you're a sports reporter. You have to choose an athlete to enter the International Sports Hall of Fame. You can choose one athlete to enter the Hall of Fame. Choose someone you admire. It can be from now or the past. Be ready to explain your choice and defend your point of view. Remember there'll be other "reporters" trying to convince the "judge" :)

Prepare a power point presentation with a SHORT biography about the person's career and why these facts made him/her suitable to be in the Hall of Fame.

NO EXCUSES PLEASE! (if you have to travel because of work, tell me in advance. If you get sick on the day, bring a doctor's note, otherwise you won't have the same grade as the others. And remember...you have two weeks, so don't let everything for the last minute!

Expressions

The song Umbrella it is a kind one bubble gum music. The Rhianna is one of pop stars in this time. I put the video from MTV movies wards 2007 where she sang “Umbrella”. The lyrics you already have. Enjoy !!!

In many songs in English appear any expressions and contractions, umbrella is not an exception. I made a smelliest list of expressions more frequently in songs. That is my list:

Gonna -> Going to
We're gonna carry on and try and get there before dark.
Gotta -> have go to
You have got to study hard. == You gotta study hard.
Wanna -> want to
"What do you want to do after class?" == "What you wanna do after class?"
Cos -> because
"Because I want to explain what happened." == "Coz I wanna explain what happened."

You can complete it :D

Greek Dress

Greek clothes were very easy to make and to put on. They were usually just made from a single piece of rectangular material, with no special shaping and very little sewing. On this page you can find out how to make clothes like the Greeks wore.

The most common piece of clothing worn by men and women was like a loose-fitting tunic, It had various names, but the most usual are peplos and chiton. Over this a heavier tunic or cloak could also be worn; the cloak was called a himation.

The peplos was long and was worn only by women. To make your own peplos:

  1. Take a large piece of material (like an old sheet). Its length has to be your height plus at least 18", and when you fold it in half it should reach from elbow to elbow. Fold over the top 18 " or so.
  2. Wrap it round you, with one side open. Fasten it at the shoulders with safety-pins or brooches.
  3. Tie a belt round your waist. Pull the extra material up so that it hangs over the belt and so that you don't trip up!

The chiton was worn by men and women and could be long or short. To make a chiton:

  1. For a long chiton, the length of the material has to be the same as your height. When you fold it in half it should reach from finger-tip to finger-tip.
  2. Sew along the side seam. Join the top edge at intervals with safety-pins or brooches, or by sewing. Don't forget to leave holes for your head and arms to go through. Slip it on over your head.
  3. Tie a belt round your waist and pull up the extra material so that it hangs over the belt.
